Abington Shuts Out Brandywine, 9-0

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team picked up its third shutout of the season as the Nittany Lions defeated Penn State Brandywine, 9-0, in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts.

How It Happened
 
* Abington jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match after taking all three doubles competitions.  In first doubles, Andrew Brown and Tim Belotserkovsky got by Julian Pinder and Like DeAngelis, 8-6.  Josh Kurek and Neil Guarino defeated Aggam Khurana and Jackson Schultz with ease, 8-2, at second doubles while Nick Talarico and Alex Vylkov cruised to an 8-1 triumph over Yookang Nam and Michael McPhee at third doubles.
 
* Brown improved to 3-0 on the year at first singles as he defeated Pinder in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-2.
 
* Kurek took his second singles match against Khurana in straight sets by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0.  He is now 4-2 in singles play this year, including 3-0 at second singles.
 
* Guarino is now 2-0 in singles play this year after knocking off DeAngelis at third singles 6-3, 6-4.
 
* At fourth singles, Belotserkovsky registered his first career shutout as he defeated Schultz in straight sets by identical 6-0 scores.
 
* Talarico also earned his first career shutout with a 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles over Nam for his fourth straight singles victory.
 
* Jeevesh Gupta is now 3-1 in singles play this year after winning at sixth singles over McPhee by the scores of 6-0 and 6-4.  Gupta has won his last three singles matches.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the third match up between Abington and Brandywine since the start of the 2018-19 season. Abington is now 2-1 versus Brandywine in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Monday, March 20 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Alvernia University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
