Abington Edged by Albright, 5-4, to Open Spring Season

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team fell short to visiting Albright College by the score of 5-4 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts.

How It Happened
 
* The duo of junior Elisa Steinhardt and freshman Soniyah Youngblood picked up Abington's lone point in doubles action with an 8-2 victory at second doubles.  It marked the first collegiate victory for both Steinhardt and Youngblood.
 
* Steinhardt also picked up her first career singles victory as she downed Albright's Jacqualine Manikas, 8-2, at third singles.
 
* Freshman Kelsey Patterson also earned her first collegiate victory as she came away with an 8-6 victory over Isabella Tice at sixth singles.
 
* Sophomore Isabella DePorre registered a point for the Nittany Lions at fifth singles over Megan Misurelli.  DePorre trailed 7-5 and rallied to force a tie-breaker.  She trailed 5-1 and 6-3 in the tie-break and fought off three match points before taking the tie-break at 9-7 to secure the match victory. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the seventh meeting between Abington and Albright since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 3-4 versus the Lions in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Thursday, March 9 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Mary Baldwin University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 12 p.m.
