Abington Outpowers Russell Sage, 21-12

Auburndale, Fla. – The Penn State Abington baseball team scored 21 runs on 16 hits on its way to a 21-12 victory over Russell Sage College in non-conference action at the RussMatt Baseball Invitational in Florida on Tuesday afternoon.

How It Happened
 
* Abington wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard as the Nittany Lions plated six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 6-1 lead in the game. Five different players drove in runs in the inning, including a two-run single by junior Eric Rollins
 
* The Nittany Lions added three more runs in the second inning with senior Zach Morales driving in a run and tacked on three more in the third to lead 12-2. Junior Tim Petrucelli highlighted the third with a two-run double.
 
* Abington really pulled ahead in the bottom of the fourth with a seven-run frame.  Fogel connected on a grand slam home run in the inning to cap the scoring as the Nittany Lions led 19-3.
 
* The Gators erupted for six runs in the top half of the seventh inning to cut the deficit down to 19-12.  Abington went on to score a run in the bottom of the inning thanks to senior Josh Baar's RBI double.  The Nittany Lions tallied a single run in the bottom of the eighth when redshirt-junior Ja'nai Vaughan drew a bases loaded walk.

* Fogel finished the game 4-for-6 with five runs and five RBI setting a new career-high in both categories.  His fourth inning grand slam marked his first home run of the season and the 11th of his career.  He also extended his hitting streak to 25 straight games.
 
* Morales went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, while Petrucelli finished the day with a 2-for-5 performance to go along with three RBI. 

* Baar also had multiple hits in the game as he finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
 
* Rollins concluded the game 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBI.
 
* For the Gators, Brendan Espinal went 3-for-5 with an RBI, while James Lubanski finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. Jared Russell went 3-for-3 with a run and two RBI.

Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Russell Sage.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action tomorrow in Florida as the Nittany Lions play two against Fitchburg State College.  The first game of the doubleheader is set for 2:30 p.m.
