Abington Falls to Waynesburg at Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic

Little River, S.C. – The Penn State Abington softball team closed out the day with a setback against Waynesburg University at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday afternoon.  The Nittany Lions fell to the Yellow Jackets, 12-2.

How It Happened
 
* Waynesburg scored four runs in the opening inning with Ella Brookman coming through with a two-run triple.  The Yellow Jackets added another four runs in the second inning as Sydney Wilson drove in a pair with a double that made the score 8-0.
 
* Abington got on the board in the top half of the third inning when sophomore Grace Renninger drove a shot to right field.  Renninger made it all the way around the bases for her first career inside the park home run. 
 
* The Nittany Lions scored another run in the fourth inning off the bat of freshman Jonalynn Hamilton who doubled to center field to drive in senior Hailey Gamble.  Gamble led the inning off with a walk.
 
* Waynesburg scored three additional runs in the bottom of the third and added a single run in the fourth.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and Waynesburg.  The Nittany Lions are now 1-1 versus the Yellow Jackets in the all-time series.  The two teams met previously in Myrtle Beach during the 2019 season.
 
Next Up
Abington is idle on Thursday but will wrap up its spring trip on Friday with two more non-conference contests.  The Nittany Lions will face Montclair State University at 9 a.m. and then take on Alvernia University at 3 p.m.
