Abington Edged by Rutgers-Camden, 5-3

Camden, N.J. – The Penn State Abington baseball team dropped a non-conference contest at Rutgers University – Camden on Tuesday night by the score of 5-3 at the Camden Athletic Complex.

How It Happened
 
* Rutgers-Camden scored all its runs within the first three innings of the game.  The Scarlet Raptors went up 1-0 in the first when Frankie Romond drove in Jacob Watson with a base hit. 
 
* The home team added a pair of runs in both the second and third innings to extend the lead to 5-0.  Diego Salazar had a run scoring double in the second and Jack Murphy hit a two-run homer in the third.
 
* The score remained 5-0 until the top of the fourth when Abington cut the lead to 5-2 thanks to a two-run homer by junior Justin Fogel.  Junior Tim Petrucelli led the inning off with a walk and was followed by Fogel's ninth home run of the season.
 
* Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the ninth.  The Nittany Lions made it a 5-3 game with two outs in the final frame.  Fogel scored on a base hit by senior Josh Baar.  With Baar on first, senior Louis Rossner drew a walk with the potential go-ahead run at the plate.  However, Camden's Sebastian Vega entered the game in relief and struck out the final batter to secure the win for the Scarlet Raptors.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Fogel finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI as he extended his hitting streak to 18 straight games.  His fourth inning homer marked the ninth of the season and the 19th of his career as he currently ranks second all-time in program history.
 
* Senior Sean Doherty finished the game 3-for-4 with a double.
 
* Barr (1-4) and sophomore Eric Stradling (1-3) also had hits for the Nittany Lions.
 
* For Rutgers-Camden, Auggie Uzdanovics went 3-for-4 with a run, while Murphy went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI.  Watson, with his first inning stolen base, set a new single-season program record for the Scarlet Raptors with 27.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the seventh meeting between Abington and Rutgers-Camden since the start of the 2011 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 1-6 versus the Scarlet Raptors in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Friday, April 14 as the Nittany Lions begin a three-game United East Conference series with St. Mary's College.  Friday's single game is set for 3 p.m. at Alverthorpe Park.
