Abington Defeats Berks, 7-2

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 victory over visiting Penn State Berks in United East Conference (UEC) action on Tuesday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.  The win marked the team's fourth overall on the year and second in conference play, both surpassing last year's totals.

How It Happened
 
* Abington jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match after taking all three of the doubles competitions.  Juniors Tinatin Sadzaglishvili and Elizabeth Turner won their first doubles match against Bel Clayton and Sallay Thollie by the score of 8-3.  The match was tied 3-3 before Sadzaglishvili and Turner ripped off five straight points to record the win.
 
* At second doubles, junior Elisa Steinhardt and freshman Soniyah Youngblood came away with an 8-6 victory over Alyssa Love and Bailey Rocker. The duo broke serve at 7-6 to clinch the match.
 
* Junior Kelsey Patterson and sophomore Isabella DePorre cruised to an 8-1 victory at third doubles over Sam Hagenbush and Katie Davis.
 
* In singles play, Sadzaglishvili won her seventh straight first singles match to improve to 9-2 on the year and 3-0 in conference at top-flight.  She defeated Clayton in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
 
* Turner picked up the win at second singles with a straight sets victory over Thollie, 6-4, 6-3.
 
* DePorre earned the point at fifth singles as she defeated Hagenbush in straight sets by identical 6-4 scores.
 
* Patterson registered a win at sixth singles after playing a pro-set with an 8-2 victory over Davis. Patterson is now 6-2 overall at the sixth flight this season.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 18th meeting between Abington and Berks since the start of the 2011-12 season.  Abington and Berks are now tied 9-9 in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington continues conference play on Saturday, April 15 as the Nittany Lions hit the road to face Penn State Harrisburg.  Match time is set for 1 p.m.
