Abington Drops Non-Conference Match to Moravian

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Moravian University by the score of 8-1 on Thursday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.

How It Happened
 
* Moravian took all three doubles competitions to open the match with 8-0 victories at first and third doubles.  At second doubles, juniors Neil Guarino and Josh Kurek battled from 3-0 down to come within one point of tying Moravian's Ronny Pimentel Ferrer and Wyatt Marshall at 5-4.  However, the Greyhounds' duo managed to score the final three points to take the match, 8-4.
 
* In singles play, freshman Nick Talarico registered the Nittany Lions' lone point in the match. Talarico cruised to a 6-0 victory in the first set against Jesse Russo, however Russo ended up taking the second set, 6-3, to tie the match.  In the 10-point super tiebreaker, Talarico fell behind 3-0 and then again at 6-4.  Despite the deficit he rallied for four straight points to take an 8-6 lead.  Russo made it a one-point score at 8-7 before Talarico got the final two points off Russo's serve to win 10-7.
 
* Talarico is now 10-1 in singles play this season, including a 7-1 mark at fifth singles. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second match up between Abington and Moravian.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-2 versus the Greyhounds in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington will resume United East Conference (UEC) play on Saturday, April 15 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Penn State Harrisburg.  Match time is set for 1 p.m.
