Abington Shutouts Saint Elizabeth, 9-0

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team defeated Saint Elizabeth University by the score of 9-0 in a non-conference match on Monday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.  The shutout marked the Nittany Lions' fifth of the season.

How It Happened
 
* The Nittany Lions cruised to three doubles victories to start the match.  Juniors Josh Kurek and Neil Guarino picked up an 8-1 victory at first doubles, while freshmen Nick Talarico and Tim Belotserkovsky recorded an 8-0 shutout at second doubles.  Sophomore Kyle Elliott and freshman Alex Vylkov won their third doubles match, 8-2.
 
* At first singles, Kurek trailed 3-0 in the first set but rallied to take the opening set by the score 6-4.  He went on to win the second set, 6-3, for the victory.
 
* Guarino shutout Michael Cadavid with identical 6-0 scores to earn the win at second singles.

* Belotserkovsky won his third singles match in straight sets over Kanta Tachiki by the scores of 6-4, 6-1.
 
* Talarico improved to 11-2 in singles play this year with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at fourth singles over Jesse Guerrero. 
 
* Fifth and sixth singles were played as eight-game pro sets as sophomore Jeevesh Gupta won his fifth singles match, 8-6, against Rodrigo Rivera.  Elliott shutout Zavier Bell at sixth singles by the score of 8-0.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the fourth matchup between Abington and Saint Elizabeth since the start of the 2017-18 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 4-0 versus Eagles in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Thurday, April 20 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Arcadia University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 3 p.m.
