Abington Defeats Arcadia, 6-3

Glensida, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team rallied from 2-1 down after doubles competitions to defeat Arcadia University, 6-3, in a non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon at Weiss Courts.  The Nittany Lions won five of the six singles matches to secure the team's ninth win of the season marking the most victories since winning nine back in 2015-16.

How It Happened
 
* In doubles action, juniors Neil Guarino and Josh Kurek as they won their second doubles match over Matthew Nagy and Ryan Salmon by the score of 8-2.  Arcadia took the points at first and third doubles.
 
* Sophomore Andrew Brown improved to 9-2 with a straight sets victory at first singles.  He defeated Francis Tamesis by the scores of 6-0, 6-3.
 
* At second singles, Kurek went the distance to defeat Nagy.  Kurek took the first set, 6-2, but Nagy forced a third set with a 6-4 win in the second set.  Kurek went on to win the third set by the score of 6-3 which ended up tying the match 3-3. 
 
* Abington took the lead in the match when freshman Tim Belotserkovsky won his fourth singles match over David Cassel in straight sets.  Belotserkovsky won the match up with the scores of 6-2, 7-5. 
 
* Freshman Nick Talerico clinched the match for the Nittany Lions as he improved to 12-2 in singles play with a victory in the fifth position.  Talerico trailed Salmon 5-4 in both sets before rallying to win 7-5 in each set.
 
* Freshman Alex Vylkov picked up the win at sixth singles as he defeated Carlos Pinga in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 7-5.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the eighth match between Abington and Arcadia since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 6-2 versus the Knights in the all-time series after winning four of the last five matches.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, April 22 as the Nittany Lions wrap up the regular season with a United East Conference match versus St. Mary's College.  Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.
