Stockton Spoils Abington’s Late Rally with Walk-Off Win

Galloway, N.J. – The Penn State Abington baseball team dropped a non-conference contest on the road against Stockton University by the score of 6-5 on Tuesday afternoon at the Stockton Baseball Field.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed 5-2 entering the top half of the eighth inning.  With two outs, junior Justin Fogel reached on an infield hit to extend the inning.  Senior Zach Morales followed and launched a two-run homer down the leftfield line to bring Abington to withing one run of the Stockton lead at 5-4.
 
* In the ninth, Abington tied the game at 5-5 when junior Eric Rollins singled up the middle to score senior Louis Rossner.  Rossner led the inning off with a base hit and moved over to second when sophomore Steve Corrado dropped down a sacrifice bunt. 
 
* In the bottom of the ninth, a leadoff walk followed by a double to right field, off the bat of Nick Avagnano, gave the Ospreys two runners in scoring position with no one out in the inning.  Austin Beard followed with a flyball to center field that was deep enough to score pinch runner Gavin Malave from third and give Stockton the walk-off victory.
 
* Abington scored two runs in the top half of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.  Back-to-back singles by Rollins and sophomore Eric Stradling set the stage for a two-run double by senior Sean Doherty
 
* Stockton regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a two-run double by Frank Bellezza.  The Ospreys scored a run in the seventh to increase their lead to 5-2 at the time.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Morales went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI as he connected on his seventh home run of the season in the eighth inning.  It also marked his 20th home run of his career.
 
* Rollins finished the game 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Doherty finished 1-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
 
* Fogel extended his hitting streak to 22 games with a 1-for-4 performance at the plate.
 
* For Stockton, Novobilsk went 3-for-5 with a run, while Bellezza finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 11th meeting between Abington and Stockton since the start of the 2011 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 2-9 versus the Ospreys in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington resumes United East Conference play this weekend as the Nittany Lions begin a three-game series at Gallaudet University starting on Friday, April 21 with a single game.  First pitch from the Nation's Capital is set for 3 p.m.
