Abington Drops Non-Conference Game to Gwynedd Mercy

Jenkintown, Pa. – The Penn State Abington baseball team dropped a non-conference contest to visiting Gwynedd Mercy University by the score of 21-8 on Wednesday afternoon at Alverthorpe Park.

How It Happened
 
* The Griffins recorded eight runs in the second inning to take the game's first lead.  Cooper Root delivered a three-run double in the inning. 
 
* Gwynedd Mercy would plate another eight runs in the fifth to increase their lead to 16-0 with Billy Collins and Noah Andress each driving in a pair of runs. The Griffins added another five runs in the sixth inning.
 
* Abington broke up the shutout bid with a three-run bottom of the sixth.  Junior Tim Petrucelli led the inning off with a solo home run.  It marked his 13th of the season and 21st of his career.
 
* The Nittany Lions came away with five runs in the bottom of the seventh.  Sophomore Steve Corrado highlighted the inning with a three-run triple to center field.
 
* The game was called after seven innings due to rain. 
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Petrucelli finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.  His sixth inning homer marked the 13th of the season and 21st of his career.
 
* Sophomore Eric Stradling finished 2-for-3 with a run.
 
* Corrado went 1-for-4 with a run and three RBI.
 
* For the Griffins, Collins went 3-for-5 with four RBI, while Root finished 1-for-1 with three runs and four RBI.  Livingstone earned the win as he held Abington to just three runs in six innings of work.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the seventh meeting between Abington and Gwynedd Mercy since the start of the 2012 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 4-3 versus the Griffins in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action tomorrow as the Nittany Lions host Penn State Harrisburg in a United East Conference doubleheader.  Game one is set for 1 p.m.  The doubleheader was originally scheduled for this Saturday but due to inclement weather that is supposed to hit the region the game was moved.
