Abington Drops Season Opener at Eastern

St. Davids, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team dropped its season opener on the road against Eastern University by the score of 4-2 in non-conference action on Friday afternoon at Olson Field.

How It Happened
 
* Eastern scored three first half goals to take a 3-0 lead in the opening half.  Leah Mowery scored the Eagles' first goal in the 14th minute and less than 10 minutes later Sydney Koncsol doubled the lead with a goal of her own in the 22nd minute.  Seana Rodgers capped the scoring in the opening half with a goal in the 38th minute.
 
* Early in the second half Abington found the back of the net when Nayesko Ravelo scored her first collegiate goal to make it a 3-1 game in the 51st minute.  Later in the half, Ravelo would strike again tallying her second goal of the game to bring the Nittany Lions within one goal of tying the game in the 76th minute.
 
* Eastern countered with an insurance goal in the next minute when Gina Facciolo connected on a goal to make the score 4-2 with less than 14 minutes to play.
 
* The Eastern defense held the Nittany Lions without a shot for the final stretch of the game to preserve the 4-2 victory.
 
Inside the Numbers

* Ravelo accounted for three of the Nittany Lions' four shots in the game.  All three shots were on-target with two finding the back of the net. 
 
* Sophomore Rachel Wilfrid made seven saves in net during the first half of play, while freshman Abby Brunnell made three stops in the second half for the Nittany Lions.
 
* Eastern outshot Abington, 30-4, in the game and held a 13-1 advantage on corner kick attempts.
 
* Four different players scored for the Eagles, while Ashlynn Keys recorded two assists in the game. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and Eastern and the first since the 2018 season.  The Eagles own a 2-0-0 record versus the Nittany Lions in the all-time series.

Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 5 as the Nittany Lions host Gwynedd Mercy University in the team's home opener.  Game time is set for 5 p.m. at Memorial Field.
