Abington Rallies to Defeat Ravens, 4-3

Rosemont, Pa. – Penn State Abington junior Madison McDowell recorded a hat-trick with three second half goals and Kaya Mobley would go on to score the game-winning goal in her debut in the 86th minute to give the Nittany Lions a 4-3 victory over Rosemont College in a non-conference contest on Wednesday night at the Ravens Athletic Complex.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed 3-0 early in the second half after Rosemont's Cassidy Smith recorded her second goal of the game in the 50th minute.  
 
* In the 57th minute McDowell scored the first of her three goals in a 22-minute span.  McDowell struck again in the 71st minute with Mobley setting up the score that made it a 3-2 game.
 
* McDowell nearly tied the game in the 76th minute but her shot was stopped by Rosemont's Emily Rossino.  However, McDowell would get her revenge in the 79th minute when she got her third goal by Rossino to tie the game at 3-3.
 
* Freshman goalkeeper Abby Brunnell came through with a clutch save in the 79th minute as she made a stop off a shot from Smith who was looking to give the Ravens the lead and potentially tally her third goal.
 
* The game remained tied until the 86th minute when Mobley came through with the game-winning goal and her first collegiate goal.  Sophomore Madison Schmitt was credited with the assist on the score.
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* McDowell's hat-trick marked the second one of her career.  Her previous came in the 2022 season opener at Gwynedd Mercy University where she scored three of the team's seven goals in a 7-0 victory.
 
* Mobley, making her debut with the team, finished with three points after scoring a goal and assisting on another.  She also had four shots in the game, including two on-target.
 
* Brunnell picked up her first collegiate victory in net for the Nittany Lions.  She entered in the second half and finished the game with a season-high four saves.
 
* For Rosemont, Smith tallied two goals and registered eight of the team's 17 shots.
 
First Win and More to Come
Interim head coach Ylber Mezani earned his first career victory.  Mezani has been with Abington since 2020 as an assistant coach with the men's program.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the fourth meeting between Abington and Rosemont since the start of the 2011 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 4-0-0 versus the Ravens in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Friday, Sept. 8 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Wilson College in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 5 p.m.
