Abington Drops Home Opener to Bloodhounds

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team dropped its home opener to John Jay College by the score of 6-1 in a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening at Memorial Field.

How It Happened
 
* John Jay scored five first half goals, including a pair by Nora O'Conner who tallied the game's first score in the seventh minute of the opening half.  O'Conner also scored in the 32nd minute as that goal gave the Bloodhounds a 4-0 advantage.  John Jay capped the first half scoring with a goal in the 39th minute from Daniela Vazquez.
 
* Abington spoiled the Bloodhounds shutout bid in the 79th minute when senior Grace Burns scored her third goal of the season off a corner kick attempt from junior Madison McDowell.
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* With her second half goal, Burns is now tied second all-time in program history with 26 career goals; one shy of tying the program record held by Mallory Mugnier (2013-15).

Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and John Jay.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 16 as the Nittany Lions host St. Mary's College (Md.) in the first United East Conference contest of the season.  Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
