Abington Shuts Down Bryn Mawr, 3-0

Bryn Mawr, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team returned to .500 on the year after picking up a 3-0 victory on the road against Bryn Mawr College on Friday night at the Class of 1958 Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed early in the first set, 7-4, but ripped off five straight points that included a pair of aces by sophomore Morgan Schaefer to make the score 9-7.  Later in the set with the score tied 16-16, the Nittany Lions went on another run, this time with seven straight points to take a 22-16 lead.  Abington took advantage of four miscues by the Owls.  The Nittany Lions scored the final three points of the set with sophomore Brianna Brozo clinching the win with a kill.
 
* The Nittany Lions fell behind 2-0 to start the second set before scoring six consecutive points.  Abington would never trail the rest of the way despite Bryn Mawr coming within a point of the lead multiple times.  The Nittany Lions pulled away with a 4-0 run after holding a 15-4 lead.  Abington went on to score the final five points of the set with freshman Kayla Mason recording two kills during the run.
 
* A 10-0 run by the Nittany Lions turned out to be the difference in the third set to give Abington the shutout victory for the match.  Trailing 9-8, the Nittany Lions surged to a 18-9 lead.  Sophomore Laine Kulpinski accounted for four of the team's 10 points with four aces.  Abington took the set, 25-13.
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* Mason finished with a match-high nine kills to go along with three digs and three aces.
 
* Freshman Jayla Hickey totaled seven kills and three digs.
 
* Schaefer led the match with 13 digs while sharing the match lead in aces with four with Kulpinski who totaled a match-high 20 assists.
 
* For Bryn Mawr, Elise Perry led the team with five kills, while Orli McGuire-Berk totaled a team-high 10 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the seventh meeting between Abington and Bryn Mawr dating back to the 2013 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 4-3 versus the Owls in the all-time series after winning four of the last five matches. 
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday as the Nittany Lions head to Clarks Summit University to take part in a quad-match.  Abington will start the day against Penn State Wilkes-Barre (11 a.m.) before taking on Utica University (1 p.m.).  The Nittany Lions will cap the day against Clarks Summit (3 p.m.).
