Abington Finishes in 2-2 Draw with Spartans

York, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team came away with a 2-2 draw on the road against York College (Pa.) in a non-conference contest on Wednesday night at Graham Field.

How It Happened
 
* York College lit up the scoreboard first as the Spartans received an early goal by Brayden Safley to take a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute.
 
* Midway through the first half the Nittany Lions tied the game and grabbed the lead within :66 seconds of game clock.  Freshman Hugh Nungessor tied the game at 1-1 with a goal at 28:28 as senior Mike Thomas assisted on the play for his fourth helper of the season.  At 29:34 the Nittany Lions grabbed the lead thanks to junior Eljo Agolli's team-leading sixth goal of the season.  Freshman Nathan Rockower and junior Arsene Bado were credited with assists on the goal that gave Abington a 2-1 lead.
 
* The score remained 2-1 until the 58th minute when the Spartans' Dermot Williamson connected on his second goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
 
* The Spartans kept the pressure on the Nittany Lions' defense with 13 second half shots as senior goalkeeper Matt Sheldon made four of his five saves in the final 45.  York College also had six second half corner kicks but the Abington defense managed to clear each attempt. 
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* Thomas tied his career-high with his fourth assist of the season matching his total from a year ago.  Thomas now has 12 career assists which ranks fourth most in program history as he just surpassed former standout Hernando Villamil who totaled 11 from 2016 to 2019.
 
* Agolli now has six goals on the season which ranks third among the United East leaders.  He has scored six goals in the last seven games.
 
* The Spartans outshout the Nittany Lions, 19-4, for the game, including 13-1 in the second half.  The Spartans also had 11 corner kicks to just one by Abington.  
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and York College and the first since 2013.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-1-1 versus the Spartans in the limited all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 30 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Neumann University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 4 p.m.
