Abington Drops Conference Tilt Against Harrisburg

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team dropped a United East Conference (UEC) contest to Penn State Harrisburg by the score of 78-53 on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Athletic Building.

How It Happened
 
* Harrisburg opened the first six-plus minutes of the second half on a 19-3 run to expand its halftime lead of 33-28 to 21 points.  Harrisburg scored the first five points of the half to gain the game's first double-digit lead (38-28) before Abington's Alex Podolski responded with a three-pointer.  From there, Harrisburg scored 14 unanswered points to lead 52-31 at the 13:51 mark.
 
* Harrisburg maintained its double-digit lead the rest of the half as the Nittany Lions were only able to come within 15 points of the lead when junior Kobe Devine hit a jumper to make the score 66-51 with about five minutes remaining.
 
* In the first half Harrisburg led by as many as nine points with less than five minutes to play until halftime.  A Lance Douglas jumper made the score 31-22.  Abington managed to cut the deficit down to 33-28 by halftime when senior Jake Schalki capped the scoring for the half at the 1:40 mark.
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* Redshirt sophomore Christian Niles finished with a season-high 22 points as he shot 8-of-16 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
 
* Schalki also finished in double-figures as he totaled 15 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds.
 
* Devine totaled seven points while leading the team with three steals on defense.
 
* For Harrisburg, Nate Curry recorded a double-double as he finished with 22 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists. Douglas added 16 points.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 13th meeting between Abington and Harrisburg since the start of the 2011-12 season.  Abington is now 3-10 versus Harrisburg in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 16 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Penn College in a United East match up.  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
