Abington Falls to Penn College in United East Action

Williamsport, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team dropped a United East Conference (UEC) contest on the road against Penn College by the score of 94-83 on Tuesday night at Bardo Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Abington held the largest lead in the first half when the Nittany Lions went up seven points after senior Jake Schalki scored a layup basket to make the score 38-31 with less than four minutes to play until the half.  Penn College scored three times on its next four possessions to tie the game at 38-38 before the Nittany Lions regained the lead with another score by Schalki to lead 40-38 with 1:48 showing on the clock.
 
* The Wildcats grabbed the lead right back with a three-point play by Landon Reeder on their next possession.  However, the Nittany Lions closed out the half with back-to-back scores by redshirt sophomore Christian Niles and junior Myles Haynes to hold a 44-41 lead heading into halftime.
 
* In the second half the Nittany Lions expanded their lead to as many as eight points after junior Kolby Miller scored a basket to make the score 55-47 at the 16:11 mark. 
 
* Over the next three-plus minutes, the Wildcats used a 12-3 run to take over the lead at 59-58.  On Abington's next possession, Schalki drained a three-pointer but the Wildcats answered with a three of their own to lead 62-61 with 12:22 to play. 
 
* Penn College stretched its lead to nine points at 76-67 but a quick 6-0 run by the Nittany Lions cut the deficit down to three points at 76-73 with just over five minutes to play.  Haynes and Schalki hit back-to-back three-pointers to bring Abington within one possession.
 
* The Wildcats followed with a 10-1 run and led by 12 points (86-74) after Alec Cooper scored a layup basket with 2:28 left on the clock.  Penn College maintained its double-digit lead the rest of the way.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Schalki finished with a team-high 21 points to go along with eight rebounds.  He shot 7-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.
 
* Haynes totaled 15 points while knocking down two three-pointers.  He also grabbed six rebounds.
 
* Niles and fifth-year Alex Podolski each scored 13 points.
 
* Miller contributed eight points, while sophomore Dylan Shead finished with six points.
 
* For Penn College, Livingston Cross and Gavin Barrett each recorded double-doubles.  Cross finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Barrett totaled 19 points and 10 assists.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 15th meeting between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2014-15 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 12-3 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 20 as the Nittany Lions travel to face St. Mary's College (Md.) in a United East contest.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
