How It Happened

* Abington never trailed in the game and after the score was tied 9-9 momentarily late in the first half, the Nittany Lions outscored the Chargers, 9-3, to close out the half.  Freshman Amina Reid converted a pair of free throws with 0.4 seconds on the clock to give the team an 18-12 lead heading into the second quarter.

* Abington held its first double-digit lead at the 5:55 mark of the second quarter after Reid connected on a three-pointer to make the score 30-20. The Nittany Lions held their lead in double-figures entering the locker rooms at halftime despite the Chargers cutting the deficit down to five points (37-32) with a minute to play in the half.  Freshman Sereniti Minor scored a layup basket before fellow freshman Amirah Hackney drained a three-pointer to cap the scoring in the first half.  Hackney's three gave the Nittany Lions a 42-32 advantage at the half.

* In the third quarter the Nittany Lions extended their lead to as many as 15 points when senior Angela Sanders hit a jumper to make the score 53-38.

* The Chargers faced a 14-point fourth quarter deficit and made things interesting down the stretch.  Lancaster Bible came within five points of tying the game after a layup score by Alaysha Iwais made the score 78-73.

* On the ensuing Abington possession, a key offensive board led to a two-point score by Hackney.  After a defensive stop, the Nittany Lions added two more points thanks to a pair of free throws by Reid.  Leading 82-73 with 1:20 left, the Nittany Lions allowed their final basket by the Chargers.  The defense forced three missed shots by the Chargers in the final minute to secure the win.

Inside the Numbers

* Sanders finished with 31 points and 19 rebounds to record her 11th double-double of the season and the 35th of her career. The 31 points marked her second 30-plus scoring performance of her career.  Sanders scored 35 points against St. Mary's College (Md.) on Jan. 8, 2022.  It just so happened that 30-plus point performance also featured a 19-rebound day.  In addition, her 19 rebounds now brings her career total to 690; 10 shy of becoming just the third player in program history to reach 700 career boards.  Shayna Rodrigeuz (721) and Jessica Schmidt (739) are the only other players to record 700-plus rebounds.

* Hackney finished with 14 points as she filled the box score with eight rebounds and five assists.

* Freshman Layla Reid also scored in double-figures as she totaled 11 points to go along with eight rebounds.

* Amina Reid added and freshman Kylie Frey each had eight points.

* Junior Kaya Mobley recorded 13 points while also dishing out five assists and scoring six points.  Mobley blocked four shots on defense.

* For the Chargers, Raven Hunter recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Iwais led the team with 23 points.
