How It Happened

* Abington led 4-3 early in the opening set and used a mini 4-0 run to push its lead to five points at 8-3.  From there the Nittany Lions maintained their lead the rest of the way and pushed it to double-digits thanks to a 5-0 surge midway through the set.  A service ace by sophomore Zayna Jamaladdin gave the Nittany Lions a 10-point advantage before a kill by freshman Ellie Van Otten capped the run to make it 19-8. Abington sealed the set victory with an ace by Van Otten for a 25-12 score.

* In the second set the Nittany Lions overcame a 5-1 start by the Paces and eventually tied the set at 9-9 and take the lead on the next point with a kill from freshman Maddie.  Marywood responded with a kill by Ryleigh Hart but Abington followed with a 6-1 run to take the lead for good.  A service ace by freshman Fabiola Medina gave the Nittany Lions a 16-11 advantage.  The Pacers cut the deficit down to 18-16 but a 4-0 run by the Nittany Lions gave the home team a little breathing room.  Marywood made one final push and came within three points at 23-20 but back-to-back miscues by the Pacers credited Abington with a 25-20 victory.

* Abington trailed the third set 11-6, but the Nittany Lions rallied with eight straight points to grab a 14-11 lead.  Abington benefited from four errors by the Pacers during the run, which also featured a pair of kills from junior Alyssa Flickinger. Marywood would tie the set at 14-14 and again at 15-15 before the Nittany regained possession of the lead.  Sophomore Brynn Atkins' kill made the score 18-15. However, the Pacers stole the lead back for the first time since leading 11-6 earlier in the set with a run of four unanswered points that made the score 21-20.  Despite the comeback, the Nittany Lions went on a 4-0 run of their own highlighted by a pair of aces from sophomore Kayla Mason.  Facing match point at 24-21, the Pacers ripped off back-to-back kills from Libby Smith and Jaedyn Laws, but Van Otten put an end to the potential comeback with her 11th and final kill of the night to give the Nittany Lions a 25-23 victory.
