Abington Draws with Roanoke

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team finished in a scoreless draw with visiting Roanoke College in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.  Senior goalkeeper Brendan Werner set a new single season record with his seventh shutout of the season.

How It Happened
 
* Abington outshot the Maroons, 18-10, for the game, including 10-5 in the first half.  Six of the Nittany Lions' 10 first half shots were on-target.  Abington had a stretch of three straight on-goal shots in a three-minute span midway through the first half starting in the 29th minute by sophomore Hugh Nungessor, senior Eljo Agolli and freshman Rael Halim.
 
* Werner made six saves in the tie, including a key stop in the 86th minute to preserve the scoreless tie.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Werner recorded his seventh shutout of the season setting a new single-season record.  He entered the game tied with former standout Esteban Leon with six shutouts.  It also marked Werner's 10th shutout of his career tying Leon for most in program history.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the second meeting between Abington and Roanoke and the first since the 2017 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-1-1 versus the Maroons in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 22 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Bryn Athyn College in a United East match-up.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
