Abington Defeats Neumann, 6-1

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team wrapped up the fall season with a 6-1 victory over visiting Neumann University in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.

How It Happened
 
* Abington swept all singles matches after the Knights took all three doubles competitions to earn the team point in doubles. 
 
* Freshman Krishna Gurram and sophomore Tripp Mangifesta each cruised in their respective singles matches.  At first singles, Gurram defeated Jason Petrin, 6-2, 6-0.  Mangifesta also won his second singles match in straight sets over Dan Bonowski by identical 6-2 scores.
 
* In third singles, sophomore Anton Labas defeated Joe Troilo in straight sets.  Labas rallied from 5-2 down in the first set to force a tiebreaker and won, 7-5.  He then took the second set, 6-3, to pick up his first collegiate singles victory.
 
* Junior Mark Tymchenko won his fourth singles match against Anthony Carpinella in straight sets.  Tymchenko won the first set, 6-4, and cruised to a 6-1 victory in set two.  His win clinched the team victory for the Nittany Lions. 
 
* Sophomore AJ Abdullah went the distance against James Leuzzi at fifth singles.  Abdullah won the first set, 7-6, after winning the tie-break, 7-4.  Leuzzi took the second set, 6-4, before Abdullah won the tie-breaker, 10-4, to take the match.
 
* Sophomore Lucca Frederico also went the distance in his sixth singles versus Adam Barisa.  Frederico took the opening set, 6-1.  Barisa tied the match with a 7-6 victory in set two after winning the tie-break point, 8-6.  In the 10-point tiebreaker, Frederico jumped out to a 5-2 lead before winning, 10-4, to earn the win.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and Neumann.  The Nittany Lions are now 2-0 versus the Knights.  Abington defeated Neumann last year, 7-2.

Abington will resume play later this spring.
