POSTSEASON BOUND! Abington Clinches on Senior Day

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team had plenty to celebrate on Saturday as the Nittany Lions defeated Cedar Crest College, 2-0, and as a result clinched a spot in the upcoming United East Conference (UEC) tournament. The team also honored its senior class prior to the game in part of Senior Day festivities at Memorial Field.  This year's class included, Abby Brunnell, Madison McDowell, Crystal Suin and Rachel Wilfrid.

How It Happened
 
* McDowell broke a scoreless tie minutes before halftime with her 19th goal of the season.  In the 41st minute, McDowell fired a shot past Cedar Crest's Bella Bozen for the game's first goal as the Nittany Lions led 1-0 at the half.
 
* In the second half, the Nittany Lions doubled their lead when freshman Meghan McMeel scored her fourth goal of the season.  The early score in the half gave Abington a 2-0 lead in the 47th minute.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Wilfrid recorded her 200th career save in the 14th minute of action.  Cedar Crest's Avery Kramer got off the Falcons only shot of the half. Wilfrid was able to make the stop for the milestone save.  She is the second player in program history to record 200 career saves.  
 
* Brunnell took over in net for the Nittany Lions and made one save off three shots by the Falcons.  The duo of Brunnell and Wilfrid recorded the combined shutout.
 
* Abington outshot Cedar Crest, 20-4 and held a 9-2 advantage on corner kick attempts.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Cedar Crest.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 22 as the Nittany Lions host Bryn Athyn College in United East action.  Game time is set for 5 p.m.
