Abington Notches 10th Victory of the Season with Win at Bryn Athyn

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team won its tenth game of the season after defeating cross-town rival Bryn Athyn College, 3-1, in United East Conference (UEC) action on Tuesday evening at General Ronald K. Nelson Field.  It's the team's first 10-win season since the Nittany Lions won 14 games back in 2015.

How It Happened
 
* The Nittany Lions struck first breaking a scoreless tie in the 22nd minute when freshman Meghan McMeel blasted a shot past the Lions' goalkeeper, Chloe Munyon, to give Abington a 1-0 lead.  Senior Madison McDowell assisted on the play for her fifth assist of the season setting a new career-high.
 
* The Abington lead held until the second half when Bryn Athyn finally got on the board in the 53rd minute.  Hailey Magilton scored her second goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.
 
* The game didn't stay tied for long as minutes later freshman Meghan McGinly scored the first of her two second half goals.  Sophomore Nayeska Ravelo was credited with the assist on the score in the 55th minute. 
 
* McGinly and Ravelo connected again in the 59th minute to double the Abington lead to 3-1.  The two goals scored by McGinly increased her season total to nine on the year.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* McDowell increased her career points total to 96 with her first half assist.  She is now four points shy of becoming the first player in program to record 100 career points.
 
* The two-goal game by McGinly was her third multi-goal game of the season.
 
* Ravelo's two helpers set a new career-high.
 
* Senior Rachel Wilfrid made four saves in net to record her eighth victory.
 
Postseason Picture
The Nittany Lions have already clinched a spot in the upcoming United East tournament and are currently fourth in the standings.  With a win over Penn State Harrisburg in the regular season finale, Abington would clinch a first-round bye.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the seventh meeting between Abington and Bryn Athyn since the start of the 2016 season. The Nittany Lions are now 2-3-2 versus their cross-town rival.  The win marked the first for Abington since 2016.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 as the Nittany Lions travel to close out the regular season at Penn State Harrisburg.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
