Abington Finishes in Scoreless Draw with Wildcats in United East Opener

Abington, Pa. - The Penn State Abington women's soccer team opened United East Conference (UEC) action hosting Penn College on Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Field.  The Nittany Lions and Wildcats finished in a 0-0 draw.

How It Happened
 
* Senior goalkeeper Rachel Wilfrid made a key stop right minutes into the game to keep the Wildcats from holding an early lead.  Penn College had a corner back-to-back corner kick opportunities in the second minute of play as Ashley Gordon managed a shot on-goal but was denied by Wilfrid. It was the only on-target shot by the Wildcats in the first half.
 
*  Abington had a pair of late on-goal shots in the first half but both were stopped by the Wildcats' Nicole Lichtinger.  Freshman Meghan McMeel got a shot off from a corner kick attempt in the 35th minute, while freshman Meghan McGinly fired a shot on-goal in the 42nd minute.
 
* Wilfrid made three saves in the second half to finish the game with four on her way to her third shutout of the season.  Her final stop came midway through in the second half in the 74th minute.  The Wildcats managed one more shot later in the half but was off-target. 
 
* Senior Madison McDowell got off back-to-back shots in the 81st minute to put pressure on the Wildcats but both attempts were off-target.
 
* Neither team recorded a shot in the final seven minutes of play.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 12th meeting between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2014 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 3-7-2 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 5 as the Nittany Lions host Keystone College in a United East match up.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
