Abington Shuts Out Neumann to Close Out Fall Season

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team closed out the fall portion of its schedule with a 7-0 triumph over Neumann University in a non-conference match on Wednesday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts.  The Nittany Lions will enter the spring season with a 2-0 overall record.

How It Happened
 
* Abington took the team point in doubles after winning all three competitions. At first doubles, senior Isabella DePorre and sophomore Laurie Flemming won their match against Alura Troilo and Kayleigh DelleVecchi, 6-3.  The duo trailed 3-2 in the match but won the final four points to pick up the win. 
 
* At second doubles, junior Soniyah Youngblood and freshman Jess Battulga cruised to a 6-1 victory against Juliet Schilling and Erica Paterson. The Nittany Lions won third doubles by default.
 
* Flemming nearly shutout Troilo at first singles as she won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
 
* DePorre and Battulga won their respective singles matches by identical 6-2, 6-0 scores.  DePorre defeated DelleVecchi at second singles, while Battulga picked up the win at third singles versus Schilling.
 
* At fourth singles, freshman Maman Saly Mbengue shutout Erica Paterson, 6-0, 6-0 to notch her first collegiate victory.
 
* Abington won fifth and sixth singles by forfeit.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the second meeting between Abington and Neumann.  The Nittany Lions are now 1-1 versus the Knights in the all-time series that started in the 2023-24 season.
 
Next Up
Abington will return to action later this coming spring.
