Abington Falls to Albright in Spring Opener

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team dropped its spring opener to visiting Albright College by the score of 7-0 in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.

How It Happened
 
* Abington dropped all three doubles competitions as Albright took the point for doubles to lead the match, 1-0, entering singles play.  Juniors Morgan Schaefer and Soniyah Youngblood battled Michelle Timothy and Kaelyn Davis in a tough second doubles match.  Schaefer and Youngblood trailed 5-4 and nearly tied the match before Timothy and Davis took to win at 6-4.
 
* In singles play, sophomore Laurie Flemming went the distance with the reigning MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year in Alex Pancu.  Pancu took to the first set, 6-1, before Flemming rallied to tie the match with a 6-4 victory.  In the 10-point tie-break, Pancu got off to an early lead and eventually won by the score of 10-4.
 
* Albright took the remaining singles matches in straight sets, including sixth singles by default.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the ninth meeting between Abington and Albright since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 3-6 versus the Lions in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, March 12 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Mary Baldwin University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 4 p.m.
