Abington Falls on the Road to Harrisburg

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team dropped a United East Conference (UEC) contest at Penn State Harrisburg by the score of 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Capital Union Building.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed 6-5 in the first set before using a 9-1 run to take a 14-7 advantage. Harrisburg responded with an 8-1 run to tie the set at 15-15 after a kill by Camryn Wettstone.  Sophomore Zayna Jamaladdin answered with a kill for Abington to regain the lead.  The two teams battled back and forth the rest of the set.  Abington had set-point after sophomore Brynn Atkins recorded a kill to make the score 24-23.  However, Harrisburg scored the next three points to take the set, 26-24.
 
* In the second set Abington held a 7-6 lead, but Harrisburg went on a 13-1 run to grab a 19-8 advantage.  Harrisburg totaled 15 kills in the set on its way to a 25-13 victory.
 
* Harrisburg closed out the match with a 25-21 victory in set three.  The home squad led 11-5 before Abington cut the deficit to three points at 12-9.  However, another big Harrisburg surge led to a 18-9 advantage.  Harrisburg took the set, 25-21.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Jamaladdin finished with a match-high 15 kills and only committed two errors on 32 total attempts for a .406 attack percentage.
 
* Freshman Ellie Van Otten added seven kills and five digs.
 
* Junior Morgan Schaefer set a season-high with 15 digs, while freshman McKinley Grimm totaled 19 assists and 11 digs.
 
* Atkins, fresh off reaching 100 career blocks, added four solo blocks to increase her career total to 104.
 
* For Harrisburg, Camryn Wettstone led the team with 14 kills, while Hannah DeGregory added 14 kills. Kate Bukowski led the match with 16 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 12th meeting between Abington and Harrisburg since the start of the 2011 season.  Abington is now 5-7 versus Harrisburg in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 29 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Penn College in United East action.  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
