POSTSEASON BOUND! Abington Clinches with Win at Penn College

Williamsport, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team will be heading back to the postseason for the second straight season after officially clinching a spot into the upcoming United East Conference (UEC) Tournament after defeating Penn College, 3-0, on Tuesday night at Bardo Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* The Abington offense produced 35 kills to just 20 by Penn College.  The Nittany Lion defense limited the Wildcats to just one kill in the opening set which featured a one-sided score of 25-8.  Abington trailed the opening set, 4-2, early and followed with a 18-1 run before scoring the final five points of the set. 
 
* The Nittany Lions trailed 9-8 in the second set and used another big run to pull ahead.  Abington scored five straight points to grab a 13-9 advantage. From there, Abington never relinquished the lead despite the Wildcats coming within two points of the lead late at 19-17.  Three straight kills by Abington, including two by freshman Ellie Van Otten, increased the score to 22-17.  The Nittany Lions took the set, 25-19.
 
* Abington once again trailed 9-8 and once again used a run to grab a 14-10 lead in the third set.  The Wildcats cut the deficit to 16-15, but the Nittany Lions held the advantage and responded with five consecutive points.  Sophomore Zayna Jamaladdin recorded a pair of kills in the run. Abington took the set, 25-16, after scoring the final four points in the set.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Jamaladdin recorded a match-high 15 kills with a .565 attack percentage after committing just two errors on 23 total attempts. 
 
* Van Otten finished the night with nine kills and seven digs. She also had three aces.
 
* Junior Alyssa Flickinger added six kills to go along with four total blocks (2BS | 2BA). 
 
* Junior Morgan Schaefer totaled a match-high 23 digs setting a season-best.  She also recorded three aces.
 
* Freshman McKinley Grimm paced the offense with 27 assists and totaled 10 digs on defense.
 
* Freshman Olivia Juan also totaled 10 digs to go along with three aces.
 
* For Penn College, Nevaeh Ward led the team with nine kills, while Ava Harple totaled a team-best 16 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 11th meeting between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2014 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 11-0 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 2 as the Nittany Lions wrap up the regular season with a home contest versus Bryn Athyn College.  Match time is set for 10 a.m. at the Abington Athletic Building.
