Abington Advances to United East Quarterfinals

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team scored a program record 13 goals as the fifth-seeded Nittany Lions defeated number 12 Saint Elizabeth University, 13-0, in the United East Conference (UEC) Tournament First Round game on Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Field.  It marked the program's first postseason victory since 2015.

How It Happened
 
* The Abington offense was too much for Saint Elizabeth as the Nittany Lions fired off 35 shots in the game, with 17 coming in the opening half and 18 in the second.
 
* The Nittany Lions scored seven first-half goals, including three by senior Madison McDowell.  McDowell finished the game tying her career-high with five goals.
 
* The Abington offense added six goals in the second half as the team finished with a program record 13 goals.  Earlier in the month the team tacked on 10 goals in the win versus Penn State Brandywine which at the time was the most ever in a game.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* McDowell became the program's first-ever player to record 100-plus career points.  With her 13-point performance, McDowell now has 110 career points that includes 46 career goals and 18 career assists.  Her 13 points also broke her own single game points record of 11 that she set earlier in the season against York College (N.Y.)  Furthermore, her three assists increased her career total to 18; one shy of the program record.  She's currently tied for second with Desirae Holmes (2012-15).
 
* Freshman Kaitlyn Frank recorded her first multi-goal game after scoring a season-high two goals.
 
* Sophomore Nayeska Ravelo finished with a six points on two goals and two assists.  She now has 30 points on the year after scoring 13 goals and four assists; all career-highs.
 
* Freshmen Christel Emmanuel and Josselyn Ponce each scored their first career goals in the win.
 
* Junior Giavonna Rebilas finished the game with one goal and a season-high two assists.
 
* Freshman Meghan McGinly also scored for the Nittany Lions marking her ninth goal of the season.
 
* Senior goalkeeper recorded her fifth shutout of the season and in the process improved on her career-low goals against average to 1.05.
 
* As a team, Abington scored a program record 13 goals and also set program records with eight assists and 34 total points.  Earlier in the month the team totaled 10 goals, six assists and 26 points versus Brandywine which set a new program record at the time.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the seventh meeting between Abington and Saint Elizabeth since the start of the 2013 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 7-0-0 versus the Eagles in the all-time series. 
 
Abington in the Postseason
The Nittany Lions are appearing in their ninth postseason since joining Division III in 2011.  Today's victory marked the program's first postseason victory since 2015 when the Nittany Lions defeated SUNY IT, 6-0, in the then NEAC semifinals. Abington is now 5-5-3 in the postseason all-time.
 
Next Up
Abington is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2 as the Nittany Lions travel to face fourth-seeded Penn State Berks in the United East quarterfinals.  Game time is still to be determined.
