Abington Wins Third Straight with Victory at Cedar Crest

Allentown, Pa. – Junior Nia Newman scored a career-high 26 points as the Penn State Abington women's basketball team defeated Cedar Crest College, 81-69, in United East Conference (UEC) action on Wednesday night at Less Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Abington opened the fourth quarter leading 57-55 and scored the first eight points of the final frame to grab its first double-digit advantage since the first quarter.  Junior Tori Tolson split a pair of free throws at the 7:50 mark to give the Nittany Lions a 65-55 lead.
 
* The early fourth quarter run propelled the Nittany Lions to their largest lead of the game.  With less than four minutes to play in regulation, sophomore Amina Reid completed a three-point play with a free throw to make the score 76-61.
 
* Abington outscored the Falcons, 24-14, in the fourth quarter and shot 10-of-19 from the field.
 
* The Nittany Lions' first double-digit lead came in the first quarter thanks to an 11-0 run to start the game. Newman scored the first six points as she finished the first half with 20 points. 
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Newman recorded her fifth straight double-digit scoring game and sixth of the season after scoring a career-high 26 points (11-19) to lead all scorers. She also had six rebounds and four assists.
 
* Amina Reid also scored in double-figures as she netted 16 points to go along with four assists and two steals.
 
* Tolson added 10 points and a season-high nine rebounds.  She also had two blocks and two steals on defense.
 
* Sophomore Layla Reid scored a season-high 12 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists.
 
* Junior Naila Newman grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and six assists. Newman also scored seven points.
 
* For Cedar Crest, Caylie Long led the Falcons with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Bryanna Rivera and Maliya Gonzalez each scored 13 points.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the fifth meeting between Abington and Cedar Crest and the first since 2017.  The Nittany Lions are now 5-0 versus the Falcons in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 7 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Penn State Harrisburg in United East action.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
