Abington Honors Seniors Against Penn College

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team recognized its Senior Class on Saturday as the Nittany Lions welcomed Penn College to the Abington Athletic Building for a United East Conference (UEC) match up.  The Wildcats defeated the Nittany Lions, 94-91. 
 
Prior to the game, Abington honored seniors Adam Podolski and Jake Schalki who were competing in one of their final home regular season games at the Athletic Building.

How It Happened
 
* Abington held its largest lead of the second half at the 15:50 mark when junior Kobe Devine drained a three-pointer to give the Nittany Lions a 59-47 advantage.
 
* Over the next five-plus minutes, the Wildcats went on a 17-5 run to tie the game at 64-64 after Alex Cooper knocked down a three-pointer.  The Nittany Lions answered right back when Podolski pulled up for a three to give Abington the lead right back at 67-64. 
 
* Both teams would exchange the lead multiple times over the next few minutes.  Devine came through with another clutch three-pointer to tie the game at 81-81 with less than five minutes to play in regulation.
 
* Penn College, on its next possession, regained the lead at 83-81 thanks to a jumper by Livingston Cross.  Cross' basket jumpstarted an 11-3 run by the Wildcats.  Penn College led 92-84 after Gavin Barrett capped the run with a two-point score with a minute to play.
 
* With time not on the Nittany Lions' side, the Wildcats managed to hold off Abington to secure the three-point victory.  Junior Myles Haynes hit a three as time expired for the Nittany Lions.
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* Podolski and Schalki each scored 20-plus points on Senior Day and combined for 15 rebounds and nine assists.  Podolski finished the game with 26 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Schalki added 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
 
* Haynes set a season-high as he totaled 19 points (8-13 FG) to go along with five rebounds.
 
* Devine also scored in double-figures with 13 points. 
 
* For Penn College, Cross led all scorers with 35 points to go along with a game-high 17 rebounds as he recorded a double-double.  Barrett finished with 27 points, while Landon Reeder added 18 points and six rebounds off the bench.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 16th meeting between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2014-15 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 12-4 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 13 as the Nittany Lions close out the regular season with a home game against St. Mary's College (Md.).  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.  Abington still has a chance to make the postseason.  The Nittany Lions will need defeat the Seahawks and then get help through the outcome of the other regular season finale contests in the Volt Division.
