Abington Dominates Wildcats on Senior Day

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team put on a dominant performance on Senior Day as the Nittany Lions defeated visiting Penn College, 91-54, on Saturday afternoon in United East Conference (UEC) action at the Abington Athletic Building.

Prior to the game, the Nittany Lions honored seniors Mariah Moore, Elena Piel and Angela Sanders in part of Senior Day Festivities.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed 10-6 at the 5:55 mark of the first quarter before bursting out with a 13-0 run to take a nine-point lead.  Freshman Amina Reid drained a three-pointer to cap the run that gave the Nittany Lions a 19-10 advantage with 2:12 to play in the quarter.  The Nittany Lions ended the frame with a 24-15 lead as freshman Kylie Frey knocked down a three as time expired.
 
* Abington's lead swelled to double-digits after the team started the second quarter with an 11-2 run capped by a three-pointer from Moore.  The three by Moore made the score 35-17 at the 7:19 mark.
 
* As the second quarter advanced, the Penn College offense began chipping away at the lead and by quarters end only trailed by seven points entering the locker rooms at halftime.  Keeley Baker scored a layup in the final seconds of the quarter to make the score 42-35.
 
* The Nittany Lions' lead returned to double-digits in the third quarter and remained that way the rest of the game.  Abington outscored the Wildcats, 29-13, and increased its lead to 24 in the final minute of the quarter after Reid converted a pair of free throws to make the score 71-47. 
 
* The Abington defense limited the Wildcats' offense to just six points in the fourth quarter.  The Nittany Lions held a 49-19 edge in the second half in scoring.
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* Freshman Amirah Hackney recorded her third straight 20-point game as she scored a game-high 26 points; two shy of her season-high. Hackney also added six rebounds and three steals.
 
* Junior Kaya Mobley recorded her second double-double of the season as she totaled a season-high 15 points to go along with a game-high 11 boards.  She also dished out eight assists and blocked a pair of shots on defense while also recording four steals.
 
* Reid also scored in double-figures with 15 points while dishing out a season-high nine assists.
 
* Sanders finished with 13 points and eight boards.
 
* Moore tied her career-high with eight points.
 
* For Penn College, Emily Pardee was the lone player to score in double-figures as she finished with 10 points.  Mia Patterson led the team with 10 rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 16th meeting between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2014-15 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 12-4 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
 
Postseason Picture
The Nittany Lions have already clinched a postseason berth into the upcoming United East Tournament.  Abington currently sits tied for fourth in the Volt Division with Lancaster Bible College at 6-5.  A victory against St. Mary's College (Md.) in the team's regular season finale will ultimately clinch a home playoff game for the Nittany Lions.

Abington will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday, Feb. 13 as the Nittany Lions host St. Mary's in an significant United East match up.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
