Abington Travels to Moravian for Non-Conference Match

Bethlehem, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match on the road against Moravian University by the score of 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Hoffman Tennis Courts.

How It Happened
 
* At first doubles, senior Elizabeth Turner and freshman Laurie Flemming battled Moravian's Mara Stapleton and Izzy Szmodis.  With the match tied 6-6, Stapleton and Szmodis registered the final two games to take the match, 8-6.  The Greyhounds took all three doubles competitions heading into singles play.
 
* In singles play, Flemming took the first set against Leah Zolotareva by the score of 6-1.  However, Zolotareva bounced back and won the second set, 6-2, to force a tiebreak.  Flemming faced a 7-5 deficit in the tiebreak and managed to tie it up at 7-7 and again at 8-8.  Zolotareva won the final two points to win the tiebreak, 10-8.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and Moravian.  The first coming in the 2021-22 season with the Greyhounds coming away with the victory.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Thursday, March 21 as the Nittany Lions host Bryn Athyn College in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 3 p.m. at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.
