Abington Falls to Penn College in United East DH

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington softball team suffered a pair of losses in a United East Conference (UEC) doubleheader against Penn College on Saturday afternoon at Huntingdon Field.  The Wildcats took game one by the score of 5-0 and finished the doubleheader with a 9-1 victory ending the game in five innings.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* Penn College scored the game's first run in the opening inning thanks to a sacrifice fly by Lexi Snyder.  The Wildcats increased their lead to 3-0 in the third with a pair of runs scored, including another RBI hit by Snyder.
 
* Penn College scored another two runs in the sixth to cap the scoring.
 
* Mackenzie Weaver (7-3) picked up her seventh win of the season after keeping the Nittany Lions hitless through seven innings.  Weaver struck out two batters.
 
How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* In game two the Nittany Lions trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. Junior Drew Liss drove in freshman Marlena Hacker to cut the deficit in half.  Hacker led the inning off with an infield hit.
 
* However, in the fifth the Wildcats broke the game open with a seven-run inning to take a 9-1 lead.  Margaret Mangene and Madison Herriman each drove in a pair of runs in the inning.
 
* Fayth Anderson allowed a base hit in the bottom of the fifth but didn't allow the runner to score as the Wildcats won the game in five innings due to the eight-run run rule.
 
Inside the Numbers (Game 2)
 
* Sophomore Emily Foxhill had a pair of hits in the game as she went 2-for-2.  Hacker and freshman Ava Livingston each had hits in the game for the Nittany Lions.
 
* For Penn College, Mangene went 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Herriman and Snyder each had two RBI.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 19th and 20th match ups between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2017 season. The Nittany Lions are now 4-16 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, April 2 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Delaware Valley University in a non-conference doubleheader.  Game one is set for 3 p.m.
