Abington Falls to Illinois College, 7-3

Davenport, Fla. – The Penn State Abington baseball team dropped a non-conference contest to Illinois College by the score of 7-3 at the RussMatt Invitational in Florida on Thursday afternoon at Northeast Regional Park.

How It Happened
 
* Abington jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first inning.  Senior Sean Doherty led the game off with a base hit to right field and went on to advance to second on a passed ball.  Two batters later, Doherty scored on a base hit by junior Josh McGee.  McGee stole second and senior Montana Milward followed with a double to left-center to drive in McGee.
 
* The Nittany Lions' lead didn't last long as the Blueboys responded in the bottom of the inning.  Louie Bartletti connected on a two-run homer to tie the game at 2-2.
 
* The score remained tied until the bottom of the fifth when Bartletti launched another two-run home run to give Illinois a 4-2 lead.  The Blueboys added another two runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 6-2 before adding a solo run in the seventh.
 
* Abington capped the scoring in the top half of the eighth when freshman Donato Incollingo drove in senior Shane Fillman with a base hit to leftfield.  Hillman led the inning off with a single.
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* Doherty finished the game 4-for-5 at the plate with a run and a double. In his last two games Doherty is batting .778 with seven hits in nine at-bats. 
 
* Junior Jake Fallers also had multiple hits as he finished 2-for-3 with a triple.
 
* Freshman James Torpey was the pitcher of record for the Nittany Lions as he went five innings allowing four runs and striking out three batters.
 
* For the Blueboys, Bartletti went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI after hitting a pair of home runs.  Branson Shaw picked up the win as he went seven innings with eight strikeouts.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Illinois College.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Friday, March 8 with a pair of games starting at 3:30 p.m.  The Nittany Lions will face Anna Maria College before taking on Farmingdale State College at 6:45 p.m.
