Abington Opens Series at Penn College with a Win

Williamsport, Pa. – The Penn State Abington baseball team defeated Penn College, 10-2, to open a three-game United East Conference (UEC) series with the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon at Bowman Field.

How It Happened
 
* Junior Josh McGee gave Abington the game's first lead in the top half of the fourth with a two-run homer over the left field fence.
 
* The Wildcats got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning when Matt Munoz connected on an RBI triple to score Adam Aldenderfer.
 
* Abington broke through with five runs in the top half of the fifth to take a 7-1 lead.  The first three batters reached base and senior Shane Fillman jump started the rally with a run scoring hit.  Two batters later, McGee hit a sacrifice fly to score freshman Gabe Marrero.  With two outs in the inning, the Nittany Lions scored their next three runs on a wild pitch, a failed pickoff attempt and a bases loaded walk.
 
* Abington added three runs in the top half of the seventh.  Junior Josh Henderson, Marrero and senior Sean Doherty had back-to-back-to-back base hits with the bases loaded and two outs in the inning.
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* Freshman Ethan Hahn earned his first collegiate victory as he went a season-high eight innings.  He finished the game with three strikeouts after holding the Wildcats to just one run.
 
* McGee had a stellar day at the plate as he went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. His fourth inning home run marked his second of the season.
 
* Senior Montana Milward went 2-for-3 with a run and two walks.
 
* Henderson finished 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.  He also reached base twice via the walk.
 
* Fillman (2-for-6) and Marrero (2-for-4) each had multiple hits in the game.
 
* For Berks, Munoz went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 28th meeting between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2015 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 18-10 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Sunday, April 14 as the Nittany Lions and Wildcats wrap up their three-game series with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
