Abington Shuts Out Wildcats, 9-0

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over visiting Penn College in a United East Conference (UEC) contest on Thursday morning at the Legacy Tennis Center in Philadelphia.

How It Happened
 
* Abington opened the match winning all three doubles competitions by identical 8-0 scores across the board.
 
* Junior Isabella DePorre and sophomore Soniyah Youngblood recorded shutouts in their respective singles matches.  DePorre defeated Eliza Newcomer at fifth singles, while Youngblood picked up the win at fourth singles over Teagan Willey. 
 
* Senior Taylor LaPage won her first set against Ginny Yost at sixth singles by the score of 6-1 before shutting Yost down in the second set, 6-0.
 
* At first singles, freshman Laurie Flemming won in straight sets over Ellen Buckley, 6-3, 6-2. 
 
* Senior Elizabeth Turner opened with a 6-2 victory in her second singles match against Kayla Weinzierl before coming away with a 6-0 shutout in the second set to take the match.
 
* Senior Elisa Steinhardt won her third singles match against Mia Clark in straight sets by identical 6-1 scores.

All-Time Series
Today marked the ninth meeting between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2014-15 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 8-1 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
 
Postseason Picture
Abington currently sits in third place in the Volt Division and could officially clinch a spot in the upcoming United East Tournament if Lancaster Bible College defeats Penn College in its match on Friday. If that occurs, both the Chargers and Nittany Lions are in the postseason and their match on Saturday will determine the pairings for the tournament.   
 
Next Up
As previously mentioned, Abington will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Lancaster Bible.  Match time is set for 1 p.m.
