Abington Closes Out Regular Season at Lancaster Bible

Lancaster, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team dropped its regular season finale at Lancaster Bible College by the score of 5-4 on Saturday afternoon at the Hempfield Rec Center.  The defeat pushed the Nittany Lions United East Conference (UEC) record to 2-3 as Abington secured the final postseason spot in the Volt Division as the four-seed. Abington will face top-seeded Penn State Harrisburg in the Volt Division semifinals.

How It Happened
 
* Abington got victories in both first and third doubles to open the match with a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.  At first doubles, senior Elizabeth Turner and freshman Laurie Flemming defeated Sarah Steckbeck and Jania Weist by the score of 8-4.  The Nittany Lions won third doubles by default. 
 
* In singles play, Flemming cruised to a straight sets victory at first flight defeating Steckbeck by identical 6-1 scores.  Abington also received a point at sixth singles by default.
 
* Turner went the distance in her second singles match against Hartmann.  Turner dropped the first set, 6-3, but rallied to tie the match with a 6-3 victory of her own in the second set.  However, Hartmann took the match with a 6-3 triumph in set three.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 14th meeting between Abington and Lancaster Bible since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 10-4 versus the Chargers in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, April 23 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Harrisburg in the Volt Division semifinals.  More information on the postseason will be available in the coming days.
