How It Happened

* Abington wasted zero time getting on the scoreboard as a two-out single by junior Gretchen Yanss drove in freshman Marlena Hacker for the game's first run.  Hacker led the inning off with a single down the left field line.

* A fielding error by Berks with two outs in the top half of the second inning led to a four-run frame for Abington.  After the first two batters were retired, sophomore Emily Foxhill reached base on an error by the first baseman.  From there, Hacker followed with a run scoring triple and then scored on another fielding blunder by Berks.  Junior Hailey Gamble connected on a triple to right-center field to score freshman Isabella Antosiewicz.  Gamble scored on a base hit by freshman Ava Livingtston to cap the inning and give Abington a 5-0 advantage.

* Berks got on the board in the bottom of the third with a run scoring double by Lauren Ziegler that made the score 5-1.

* The score remained 5-1 until the seventh when the Nittany Lions tacked on another run. Yanss drove in Livingston with a sacrifice play to make the score 6-1.

* Berks made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh.  Ziegler delievered a two-run double to center to make it a 6-3 game.  Ziegler scored on an infield hit by Alexa Burkey to bring Berks within two at 6-4.  However, with the tying run at the plate freshman Paula Casale was able to retire Rylee Tineri for the final out to secure the victory.
