Abington Falls to Pride, 2-0

Chester, Pa. - The Penn State Abington men's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest on the road against Widener University by the score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Elizabeth J. Hirschmann Field at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

How It Happened
 
* Widener totaled 12 of its game-high 21 shots in the first half with only two going on-target.  Senior goalkeeper Brendan Werner made the stop on both to keep the Pride off the scoreboard for a scoreless first half.
 
* In the early minutes of the second half, Abington had on opportunity to jump on scoreboard first with back-to-back on-goal shots by sophomores Hugh Nungessor and Amerr Yagoub.  However, Widener's Ryan Van Pelt recorded a save on both attempts to keep the game scoreless through the 52nd minute.
 
* Moments later, the Pride broke the deadlock with a pair of goals. The first coming in the 53rd minute off the foot of Jordi Lopez.  In the 61st minute, Widener doubled its lead with a goal from Sean Fatiga.
 
* Down the stretch Abington put the pressure on Van Pelt but the Widener keeper registered three more saves in the half to preserve the shutout victory.  He finished the game with five saves, all coming in the second half.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Yagoub, along with senior Eljo Agolli and junior Tony Colon, each had two shots apiece for the Nittany Lions. 
 
* Abington fired off seven shots in the second half with five on-target after totaling just two shots in the first half. 

All-Time Series
Today marked the fifth meeting between Abington and Widener and the first since the 2019 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-4-1 versus the Pride in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 4 as the Nittany Lions host Rutgers-Camden in the team's home opener at Memorial Field.  Game time is set for 4 p.m.
