How It Happened

* Down 2-0, the Nittany Lions needed the third set to extend the match in hopes of a potential comeback bid.  Abington trailed early in the set, 6-2, but quickly turned things around with four straight points to tie the set at 6-6.  Both teams stayed within a few points of one another with neither team taking control.  With the set tied 20-20, the Nittany scored three unanswered points to grab a 23-20 advantage.  The Cyclones registered a point via a kill before a kill by freshman Maddie Welch made it set-point.  A bad set by the Cyclones clinched the set for the Nittany Lions at 25-21.

* In the fourth set the Nittany Lions jumped out to a 9-1 run and looked to be in full control of the set.  The Cylcones however rallied and eventually grabbed the lead at 17-16.  The one-point advantage was short-lived as sophomore Brynn Atkins tied the set with a kill.  Both teams would exchange points on errors before Abington scored four straight points to lead 22-18.  The Nittany Lions held on to the lead the rest of the way to take the set, 25-22, and most importantly tie the match at 2-2 to force a decisive fifth set.

* Abington broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth set after a kill by junior Alyssa Flickinger.  The Nittany Lions followed with two more points thanks to an error by the Cyclones and a service ace by sophomore Kayla Mason to lead 6-3.  The Nittany Lions never relinquished the lead despite Centenary cutting the score to 10-9.  From there, Abington scored the final five points, including three kills from Mason to take the set, 15-9.
