Abington Finishes in Scoreless Draw with Royals

Abington, Pa. - In the first-ever meeting between the two schools, the Penn State Abington men's soccer team and the University of Scranton finished in scoreless draw in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.

How It Happened
 
*  In a game that was limited in shots, Abington had the first real opportunity to find the back of the net.  In the fourth minute, senior Arsene Bado had a shot towards the bottom right of the net but was stopped by Scranton's keeper, Charilie Smith.  Bado had another on-goal attempt later in the half in the 26th minute but Smith was there once again to make the save.
 
* Abington senior goalkeeper Brendan Werner held the Royals scoreless in the opening half makine a lone save in the 24th minute.  Scranton attempted four shots in the half but only one on-target.
 
* In the second half Scranton attempted another four shots with two of them on-goal.  Werner made both stops, including a key save in the 88th minute off a shot by James Mayo.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
*   Werner recorded his second shutout of the season and the fifth of his career. He finished the game with three saves.
 
* Bado led the Nittany Lions with four shots, including two on-goal.  Fellow senior Eljo Agolli tallied two shots on the afternoon.
 
* For the Royals, Smith finished the game with two saves in net.  Matt Capretto and Preston Rushmore each had two shots in the game.

Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Scranton.

Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 18 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Stockton University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
