Abington, Pa. - The Penn State Abington women's soccer team fell short against William Paterson University by the score of 2-1 in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.

How It Happened
 
* The Pioneers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after scoring a pair of goals within the first 2:26 of the game.  Julia Fiorito scored the first goal :45 seconds into the game, before Brianna De La Cruz doubled the Pioneers' lead with a score in the 3rd minute.
 
* Abington cut the deficit in half in the 17th minute when senior Madison McDowell scored her third goal in as many days.  Junior Giavonna Rebilas assisted on the play.
 
* In the first minute of the second half, sophomore Nayeska Ravelo fired a shot that would have tied the game but Pioneer goalkeeper, Sarah Mantilla, made the stop to keep the game at 2-1.
 
* Later in the half, McDowell nearly found the back of the net a second time in the 63rd minute, however her shot was stopped by Mantilla.  McDowell's shot on-net turned out to be the final attempt by the Nittany Lions in the game.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* McDowell's first half goal marked her third of the season and the 25th of her career.  She's now tied for fourth place all-time with Michelle Latronica who tallied 25 goals from 2014-2017.  McDowell increased her career points total to 59 which is 10 points shy of Latronica's all-time points record of 69. 
 
* Rebilas' assist on McDowell's goal marked her first career point in an Abington uniform.
 
* For the Pioneers, Erin Clark and Christina Jimenez each were credited with assists. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and William Paterson.

Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 18 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Gwynedd Mercy University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
