Abington Cruises Past Aggies, 3-1

Abington, Pa.  – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team picked up their eighth victory of the season after defeating Delaware Valley University, 3-1, in a non-conference contest on Wednesday at the Abington Athletic Building.  The Nittany Lions have won eight of their last nine matches.

How It Happened
 
* After dropping a competitive first set, 25-21, the Nittany Lions cruised to a one-sided victory in set number two with a 25-9 triumph.  Abington scored the first eight points in the set, including three aces by sophomore Zayna Jamaladdin.  After two points by the Aggies, the Nittany Lions ripped off four straight points to take a double-digit lead at 12-2.  Abington led by as many as 15 points after an ace by sophomore Kayla Mason made the score 18-3.  Jamaladdin capped the scoring in the set with back-to-back kills.
 
* In the third set the Aggies held a 6-3 lead but the Nittany Lions would eventually take a 13-10 advantage after a 10-4 rally.  Abington led the rest of the set, including a six-point advantage at 22-16 after three straight kills by Jamaladdin. The Nittany Lions took the set, 25-20.
 
* Delaware Valley led 10-8 in the fourth set but a 5-0 run by the Nittany Lions turned the momentum as the home team took a 13-10 advantage.  Four attack errors by the Aggies aided the Nittany Lion run.  Abington sealed the victory by scoring the final three points in the set with a 25-19 victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Jamaladdin finished with a match-high 15 kills; one shy of her career and season high.  She also totaled three aces in the win.
 
* Freshman Ellie Van Otten also registered double-digit kills as she finished with 10.  Van Otten also had five digs and two aces.
 
* Freshman McKinley Grimm paced the offene with a match-high 35 assists; one shy of her season-high.  She also totaled 12 digs.
 
* Freshman Fabiola Medina recorded a team-best 18 digsto go along with a pair of aces.
 
* Sophomore Brynn Atkins added five kills and five total blocks, including two solo blocks and three block assists.
 
* Sophomore Kayla Mason and junior Alyssa Flickinger each totaled seven kills.
 
* For the Aggies, Grace Kane finished with a team-high 13 kills, while Grace Wilson led the team with 11 digs. Madison Alexander totaled 15 assists and seven digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the eighth meeting between Abington and Delaware Valley since the start of the 2014 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 4-4 versus the Aggies in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 as the Nittany Lions compete in a tri-match hosted by Wilkes University.  Abington will face Bard College at 2 p.m. and then take on the host Colonels at 4 p.m.
