How It Happened (vs. Bard)

* Abington took the opening set by the score of 25-22 despite Bard holding the edge on offensive kills (15-12) and total attacks (41-34).  Late in the set the Nittany Lions trailed 20-19 but rolled off five straight points, including three kills by sophomore Brynn Atkins.  After a pair of kills by the Raptors made the score 24-22, the Nittany Lions clinched the set thanks to a service error.

* Bard tied the match with a 25-17 victory in the second set but the Nittany Lions bounced back and regained control of the match with a 25-18 victory in the third set. Abington trailed just once in the set when the Raptors held a 5-4 lead.  The Nittany Lions used another late run to pull away from Bard.  Abington led 17-16 at the time and then scored seven of the next eight points to increase its advantage to 24-17 before taking the set, 25-18.

* Abington opened the fourth set with a 9-2 run and never relinquished the lead despite Bard coming within one point of tying the set late.  With the score 21-20, the Nittany Lions took advantage of two miscues by the Raptors and then freshman McKinley Grimm recorded an ace to make the score 24-20. Abington won the set 25-21.

*  Abington cruised to a 25-14 victory in the opening set in which the Nittany Lions totaled 13 kills and forced eight errors on the attack by the Colonels.  An 8-1 run midway through gave Abington an 18-9 lead before going on to score six of the final eight points in the set.

* Wilkes responded with back-to-back victories in the next two sets to lead the match, 2-1.  The Colonels combined for 31 kills in the two sets, including a match-high 18 in the third set.  Wilkes also only committed eight errors on the attack in the two set wins.

* In the fourth set it appeared the Nittany Lions were going to easily force a fifth and decisive set after holding multiple eight-point leads with the latter coming at 23-15.  However, a 9-0 run by Wilkes gave the Colonels a 24-23 lead and match-point.  A kill by Mason tied the set and then an attack error gave the Nittany Lions a 25-24 lead.  Wilkes followed with a kill from Sierra Hines to once again tie things up, but the Nittany Lions took advantage of a bad set by the Colonels followed by a kill from Mason to close out the fourth set at 27-25.

* In the fifth set a late run secured the victory for the Nittany Lions.  Trailing 10-9, three straight miscues by Wilkes followed by back-to-back aces from Medina gave Abington a 14-10 lead and match-point.
