Abington Cruises Past Ravens, 3-0

Bryn Mawr, Pa. - The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team won its fifth straight match after making quick work of Rosemont College in a non-conference match on Tuesday evening at the Hirsh Community Center.  The Nittany Lions defeated the Ravens, 3-0.

How It Happened
 
* Abington held Rosemont to just 10 kills the entire match, while the Nittany Lions' offense finished with 29 kills and 18 aces off the serve.
 
* In the opening set the Nittany Lions opened with a 6-0 run and never looked back.  Midway through the set, Abington led 15-10 and went on to score 10 of the final 11 points in the match, including a stretch of seven straight points.  Freshman McKinley Grimm closed out the set with back-to-back aces.
 
* In the second set the Nittany Lions trailed 5-3 but 13-1 surge gave Abington a double-digit advantage at 16-6.  The Nittany Lions maintained their double-digit lead the rest of the set and scored five of the final six points of the set to win, 25-12.  Freshman Olivia Juan jump-started the final rally with a kill and two straight aces.
 
* The Nittany Lions opened the third set with an 8-1 run, and it was more than enough distance between the Ravens.  Freshman Hailey Revak started the set with back-to-back aces, while junior Maddie Gajewski converted a kill before the Ravens registered their only point during the run. As the set progressed, Abington led 18-9 and scored the final seven points of the set to win, 25-9. 
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Juan finished the match with a season-high five aces to go along with eight digs.
 
* Grimm also set a season-high with five aces as she also totaled 10 assists and four digs.
 
* Freshman Ellie Van Otten led the match with eight kills to go along with seven digs and three aces.
 
* Revak registered a season-high nine assists and three digs.
 
* Freshman Fabiola Medina led the team with 15 digs and totaled four kills.
 
* For Rosemont, Madeline McCarthy record four of the team's 10 kills, while Shenan Jackson led the team with 13 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 12th meeting between Abington and Rosemont since the start of the 2011 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 11-1 versus the Ravens in the all-time series and have won the last seven match-ups.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 26 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Saint Elizabeth University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
