Abington Wins Sixth Straight with 3-1 Victory at Saint Elizabeth

Morristown, N.J. - Sophomore Zayna Jamaladdin and freshman Ellie Van Otten each totaled 13 kills as the Penn State Abington women's volleyball team picked up its sixth straight victory with a 3-1 triumph in a non-conference contest at Saint Elizabeth University on Thursday night at St. Joseph's Hall.

How It Happened
 
* The Nittany Lions recorded a match-high 13 kills in the opening set and only committed two errors on the attack for a .324 attack percentage.  Jamaladdin (4) and Van Otten (3) combined for seven of the team's 13 kills in the set.  Abington jumped out to an 8-0 run and led by as many as 12 points on two occasions with the latter coming at 18-6.  The Nittany Lions went on to take the set, 25-14.
 
* After dropping the second set, the Nittany Lions bounced back with a 25-13 victory in set number three.  Abington scored seven of the first eight points, including a pair of aces by Jamaladdin to close out the run.  The Nittany Lions grabbed a double-digit lead midway through a late 4-0 run at 22-11.  After a pair of points by the Eagles, Abington scored the final three points of the set with kills from, Van Otten, freshman Maddie Welch and junior Alyssa Flickinger.
 
* Abington trailed early on in the fourth set as the Eagles held a 5-2 advantage.  The Nittany Lions briefly took over the lead at 10-9 but a kill by Stephanie Jaramillo quickly tied the match at 10-10.  However, Abington rallied with a 5-1 run to take over the lead; this time for good.  The rally extended to four more unanswered points to give the Nittany Lions a 21-12 lead before taking the set, 25-17.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Jamaladdin and Van Otten each tallied a match-high 13 kills.  Jamaladdin also totaled six digs and led the team with four aces. 
 
* Sophomore Brynn Atkins had a career night at the net as she totaled a career-high seven blocks, including a career-best four solo blocks.  Atkins also had three kills in the win.
 
* Freshman McKinley Grimm totaled a match-high 26 assists to go along with seven digs.
 
* Freshman Fabiola Medina led the team with a match-high 16 digs, while junior Morgan Schaefer added double-digit digs as well with 10.
 
* For Saint Elizabeth, Onye Bosco recorded a team-high 13 kills, while Dadlyna Louis added 10 kills.  Alyssa Wells finished with a team-high 16 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the ninth meeting between Abington and Saint Elizabeth since the start of the 2013 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 7-2 versus the Eagles in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 1 as the Nittany Lions host Marywood University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Abington Athletic Building.
