McDowell, Wilfrid Reach Career Milestones Against Eastern

Abington, Pa. - The Penn State Abington women's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest versus visiting Eastern University by the score of 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Field.  Seniors Madison McDowell and Rachel Wilfrid each reached career milestones in the game.   McDowell, who scored a pair of goals, moved into second place all-time in both points and goals, while Wilfrid moved into second place all-time in total saves after making three stops versus the Eagles.

How It Happened
 
* Eastern led 1-0 after a first half goal by Mia Zucker in the 30th minute.  It marked the only goal of the opening half.
 
* The Nittany Lions tied the game early in the second half thanks to a penalty kick opportunity.  A foul by the Eagles inside the box set up a PK score by senior Madison McDowell in the 50th minute.
 
* Eastern regained the lead with a goal by Ella Marrollo in the 64th minute and extended its lead to 3-1 in the 68th minute with a score by Emma Bennett.
 
* Abington cut the deficit to one in the 70th minute when McDowell converted her second penalty kick attempt of the game.  Another foul inside the box by the Eagles set up the scoring play for the Nittany Lions.
 
* The Nittany Lions had a chance to potentially tie the game less than a minute later with a corner kick opportunity but were unable to get off a shot.  The Eastern defense held the Nittany Lions without a shot the final 20 minutes of the second half.

*  McDowell's two penalty kick scores marked career goals number 27 and 28 as she is now one goal shy of tying former teammates' school record of 29 goals.  In addition, McDowell moved into a tie for second place with 65 total points.  She needs four more points to tie Michelle Latronica's top mark of 69 career points. McDowell also set the program record for most career penalty kick goals.  She now has five in her career passing Latronica who had four. 
 
* Wilfrid finished the game with three saves in net and in the process recorded her 183rd career save surpassing Gabrielle Benedict for second place in the program's record book.  Benedict finished her career with 182 career saves. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the third meeting between Abington and Eastern since the start of the 2018 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-3-0 versus the Eagles in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 28 as the Nittany Lions host York College (N.Y.) in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Memorial Field.
