Abington Defeats Wilson to Remain Perfect in United East

Abington, Pa. – Sophomores Amirah Hackney and Amina Reid each recorded double-doubles as the Penn State Abington women's basketball team defeated Wilson College, 84-59, in United East Conference (UEC) action on Wednesday night at the Abington Athletic Building.  Hackney finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Reid totaled 17 points and 10 rebounds to register their respective double-doubles.
 
With the win the Nittany Lions improved to 5-0 in the United East marking the team's best start in conference play since starting 8-0 in 2014-15.

How It Happened
 
* Abington led from beginning to end after opening the game with six straight points leading to a 9-2 run capped by a three-pointer by Reid.  The Nittany Lions led by as many as nine points in the quarter after junior Nia Newman drained a three-pointer in the waning seconds of the quarter to lead 21-12.
 
*  Abington grabbed its first double-digit lead of the game in the opening seconds of the second quarter when Hackney split a pair of free throws to make the score 22-12. The Nittany Lions increased their lead to as high as 15 points in the quarter with two minutes remaining until halftime.  Sophomore Kylie Frey connected on a three-pointer to make the score 40-25. 
 
* The Nittany Lions maintained their double-digit lead the rest of the game and led by as many as 25 points when freshman Nicole Dudzinski hit a three-pointer to cap the scoring at 84-59. Abington outscored Wilson, 44-31, in the final half.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Reid recorded her second double-double of the season after totaling 17 points and dishing out 10 assists; one shy of her season-high.  She also totaled three steals on defense.
 
* Hackney registered her first double-double of the season after scoring 17 points and grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds.  She also had three assists and three steals in the game.
 
* Nia Newman added 16 points and nine rebounds while recording five steals. 
 
* Junior Naila Newman also scored in double-figures as she totaled 13 points, five rebounds and a game-high seven steals.
 
 * Junior Esther Cole finished the game with a season-high nine points and 10 rebounds. 
 
* For Wilson, Allie Cullison led the team with 16 points, while Chelcie Forrester recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 18 rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 14th meeting between Abington and Wilson since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 12-2 versus the Phoenix in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 11 as the Nittany Lions host Saint Elizabeth University in a United East contest.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
